The fall nights are cooler and leaves are falling fast. It is autumn in Maine and we are more than half-way through our first trimester at AES. This is the “Welcome Back” edition of the Wildcat Press and an opportunity for me to share the exciting programs we offer at AES. The students did a great job last spring piloting our Voice Level expectations as part of our efforts to transform into a PBIS (Positive Behavior, Interventions, and Supports) school. This year we will launch school-wide student expectations while in the halls, during lunch, at recess, on the bus and in the bathrooms. AES will continue our journey with Proficiency-Based Learning and will use our professional development time to improve our proficiency-based teaching practices. It is my hope to have a much leaner progress report available to parents at the end of the first trimester so they will be able to see their student’s progress “at a glance” while maintaining the option to dig deeply into the academic standards. Students will continue to study science through Project Lead the Way and will also learn science skills with Science Dimensions which is a new curriculum to support PLTW. I want to thank the AES staff, parents, school committee, PTG and students for a great first year with you and I look forward to another exciting and rewarding year as your Superintendent/Principal of the Acton School Department. Go Wildcats!

- Mr. Ross
