QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Certification (050)

  2. Masters Degree in a related field

3. Knowledge of State and Federal Regulations

4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee

         may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent 

SUPERVISES: Professional/support staff of the school.

JOB GOAL: 

To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills in order to promote the educational development of each student and the professional growth of the staff in accordance with the strategic plan.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative Responsibilities

  1. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.

  2. Keeps the superintendent informed of the school’s activities and problems.

  3. Works with the administrative team on issues such as transportation, special education and the like for Acton School Department.

  4. Interprets, implements, and enforces school department policies and administrative regulations.

  5. Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the Superintendent.

  6. Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases. 

  7. Any other duty assigned by the Superintendent that is reasonable for the position.

 Administrative Management


  1. Assists in the management and preparation of the school budget.

  2. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.

  3. Schedules school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.

  4. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline. 

  5. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.

  6. Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant in conjunction with the Maintenance/Custodial Supervisor.

  7. Provides for scheduling of daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.

  8. Serves as an ex officio member of all committees and councils within his/her school.

  9. Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.

Personnel

  1. Coordinates / supervises all faculty and staff under the direction of the Superintendent.Participates in the selection of all school personnel.

  2. Provides orientation to newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate.

  3. Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance in accordance with School Committee Policy.

  4. Informs to keep all staff members of policy changes, programs and relevant school matters.

Curriculum and Instruction

  1. Coordinates and promotes the development, articulation and implementation of the curriculum, instructional program, as well as assessment and reporting systems. 

  2. Works to support and evaluate the school’s extracurricular program in accordance with policy.

Planning

  1. Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.

  2. Makes recommendations concerning the school’s staffing, administration and instructional programming to the superintendent and School Committee.

  3. Stays up-to-date with and continually integrates evidence- and research-based educational practices. Coordinates and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program in accordance with the Crisis Plan.

  4.      Coordinates and disseminates all local, state and federal assessments.

Community


  1. Promotes and maintains positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the community.

  2. Attends school sponsored activities and events.

COMMUNICATIONS


  1. Keeps staff, School Committee, students, parents and the public informed about the progress of goals in the strategic plan. 

  2. Works actively to promote and market Acton Elementary School to the general public.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:


  1. Salary, benefits and work year to be determined by the Superintendent, with the approval of the School Committee.

EVALUATION:


  1. Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with State law and the School Committee’s policy on Evaluation of Administrators.
