Evaluation of Teachers Process

 

The Acton School Department’s Professional Growth model is based on the belief that excellent instructional practices are a result of a collaborative evaluation process and that expanding one's pedagogy is the cornerstone of professional excellence.

Probationary Teacher Observations ~

Probationary teachers are formally observed a minimum of twice a year. The observation

process includes:


  • A preconference between the probationary teacher and administrator prior to the

classroom observation to discuss what will be taught, identify the appropriate student learning targets, and set the date/time for the observation.


  • The administrator observes the lesson at the agreed-upon date/time.


  • The administrator emails the probationary teacher his/her observations of classroom environment, classroom management, and instruction, along with a list of commendations and recommendations.


  • A post-conference between the probationary teacher and administrator to review the written observation.


  • The written observation is signed by both participants, the probationary teacher is given a copy and the original is placed in the probationary teacher’s personnel file.

Probationary Teacher Summative Evaluation ~

Probationary teachers are provided a summative evaluation at the end of the school year that

includes feedback on planning & preparation, instruction & environment, and professional responsibilities.

Continuing Contract Teacher Observations ~

Continuing contract teachers are formally observed a minimum of twice every three years. The faculty is divided into three groups, Red, White, and Blue. The administration focuses on one

group each school year.

Continuing Contract Teacher Goal Setting ~

Each continuing contract teachers meets with the administrator early in the school year to

determine professional goals based on the Marzano Focused Teacher Evaluation Model and

Student Learning Objectives (SLO’s) that will determine student growth in a particular academic area.

Continuing Contract Teacher Observations ~


  • A preconference between the continuing contract teacher and administrator prior to the classroom observation to discuss what will be taught, identify the appropriate student learning targets, and set the date/time for the observation.


  • The administrator observes the lesson at the agreed-upon date/time.


  • The administrator emails the continuing contract teacher his/her observations of classroom environment, classroom management, and instruction, along with a list of commendations and recommendations.


  • A post-conference between the continuing contract teacher and administrator to review the written observation.


  • The written observation is signed by both participants, the continuing contract teacher

is given a copy and the original is placed in the continuing contract teacher’s personnel File.

Continuing Contract Teacher Summative Evaluation ~

Continuing contract teachers are provided a summative evaluation at the end of the school

year that includes feedback on planning & preparation, instruction & environment, professional responsibilities and the results of the achievement of goals and student(s) SLO’s.
