PROOF OF RESIDENCY FOR ACTON STUDENTS

The following documents are acceptable to Acton School District as proof of residency:

Current Utility Bill, one that denotes a physical residence IE electricity bill.

Current Rent Receipt

Current Tax Bill

Current Lease Agreement

Bills with PO Boxes, your Driver’s License, or vehicle registrations are not acceptable as proof of residency.

If you are living with someone else in the district, you must provide a letter from the person you are residing with stating that you are residing with that person and that person must provide one of the above documents to prove their residency in the district.

You must have legal custody/guardianship of the student.  You may be asked to provide court documentation of custody and/or divorce decree.

School policy prohibits children staying with non-custodial relatives to attend school in Acton.  Simply owning land or property in Acton does not equate to residency.

I further certify that the above-mentioned student resides with me at this address.

I understand that I may not have my child or ward enrolled in the Acton School District at any time unless I, as custodial parent, am maintaining a bona fide residence within the town of Acton.  I agree to notify the school if my child or ward and I move from the aforementioned address.

Any effort on my part to illegally have my child or ward enrolled in the Acton School District in violation of the residency requirements of the State of Maine may result in criminal prosecution for the theft of services, as allowed under Maine State Statutes.  Any conviction carries a potential fine and/or jail sentence.

I also understand that in addition to the aforementioned criminal sanctions, I am responsible for repayment of tuition for any time that my child or ward is enrolled in the Acton School District when I am not a bona fide resident of the district.  Tuition cost for the school year will be billed.

I hereby waive my rights to confidentiality of information relative to my residence and understand that the Acton School District will use whatever legal means it has at its disposal to verify my residency.
